Brighton: Trauma Awareness for Facilitators – with Betsy Polatin

May 14th – 15th 2019
“Trauma Awareness for Facilitators”- a 2-day workshop – With Betsy Polatin, MFA, AmSAT, SEP, author of “The Actor’s Secret”

This class will provide information that will benefit you, as well as your clients, or students. Betsy will offer an introduction to the world of trauma and explain it as a whole-body experience. And, of course, include ways that we might address it. Betsy have been studying with trauma expert Dr. Peter Levine for the last twenty years, and have had training with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Stephen Porges, and many other trauma experts. Join us for an informative and experiential workshop.

Who is it for?

– Facilitators,

– Coaches

– Body trainers and teachers

Day 1 – In the morning, we will begin with exploring the concepts of Resourcing, Tracking and Orienting. That will expand into – how to find Support and Suspension.

Day 1 – In the afternoon I will introduce exercises that look at Boundaries, and Pendulation, and more. With hands-on guidance and simple exercises to enhance sensory skills, we will explore the musculoskeletal, respiratory, and nervous systems. Through group exercises, demonstrations, and one on one instruction, you’ll learn to recognize traumatic patterns in yourself and your clients.

Day 2 – Morning – We will begin by exploring the Polyvagal Theory. The theory that helps us understand our responses to danger. Do you feel safe, danger, or life-threat? And how is that still held in your body patterns.

Day – 2 – Afternoon – We will look at the work of Carl Stough, pioneer in respiratory science. And learn hands on guidance with breath work.

By increasing body awareness, and breathing capacity, you can change inefficient habits, so that you can move with ease and speak with confidence as you work with your clients. Learn to awaken inherent potential by finding the support from the ground that can lead to full stature and expansion, while noting how trauma and overwhelm can interfere with this process.
